How To Build A Business That Doesn’t Own You

One of my highest values is individual freedom.

The freedom to do what I want … when I want … where I want … and with whom I want.

And if you’re like most entrepreneurs, business owners, and mission-driven leaders, freedom is high up there on your priority list too.

Yet, sadly MANY entrepreneurs end up trapped by the very businesses that were designed to create their freedom.

So, how do you actually build a business you own that doesn’t own you?

There are two parts … one is tangible and the other is not.

One is much simpler to navigate and the other is where most people get stuck.

Most people focus on the tangible and neglect the intangible … YET, nearly every-single-time the intangible blocks us from even getting to the tangible.

So, if you’re wishing you were further along in your business and seeing even greater results, then read until the end.

If you’re inclined to skip to the tangible and repeat a dysfunctional pattern (NOT RECOMMENDED) … you can download 4 Tips for Quickly Organizing Your Business To Scale.

But, if you’re ready to address the elusive roadblock and create sustainable growth in your business … let’s dive in.

Structure equals Freedom.

Did your eyes just pop out of your head like bugs bunny?!

I know …  I know … it’s the exact opposite of what every maverick entrepreneur wants to hear, but it’s the truth.

Chaos does not create freedom.  Lack of discipline does not create freedom.  Impulsive decision-making does not create freedom.  Chasing shiny pennies does not create freedom.

Don’t hate me.  Well, you can if you want … BUT you’ll love me once you see the results that structure brings.

Real personal freedom comes from creating and operating within structure.  It’s also the key to sustainable business growth.

Without structure … we’re operating at the mercy of emotions, passions, and external circumstances to define our freedom. Which is a recipe for entrapment.

How do we create structure?

Structure is simply daily habits.  A rule-book that takes all the guesswork out of the equation and gives us the ability to show up without restraint to get things done.

In order to operate at this level, we must have mental toughness.

And that’s the elusive roadblock in the freedom equation … especially when building and scaling a business.

The journey of entrepreneurship puts us face-to-face with all our fears, insecurities, doubts and personal demons.

And to avoid the uncomfortableness of looking at ourselves and sitting with our limiting beliefs and behaviors …

We chase shiny pennies, throw people and money at our problems, hide from accountability, get trapped in analysis paralysis, and the manifestation of resistance is endless.

Are you doing any of those things?!  If so …

The cure is mental toughness.  Grit.

The bigger question is how do we create an environment that breeds mental toughness?

Most personal development guru’s say …  put your butt in the seat and do the thing you know you need to do even when you don’t feel like doing it.

Wake up at 5am … don’t hit snooze … take the cold shower … read 30-minutes a day … write 1000 words before noon … and the list goes on.

All good things to do, BUT somehow this approach keeps failing us.  It’s short-lived.

And that’s because willpower isn’t enough.  Willpower is never stronger than our environment.

If we’re putting ourselves in a low-accountability environment … we’re going to have weak mental toughness.

The environment that creates a high-level of mental toughness is one with high-accountability and high-camaraderie Period.  No exceptions.

This is the entire framework for Organize To Scale™.  Whether you work with us, someone else, or attempt this on your own … the methodology is the same.
