If you’ve ever felt trapped in the very business that was designed to create freedom for you … then you’re not alone AND this email is for you …
Maybe you’re still at the starting blocks overwhelmed with how to even build a business … let alone scale one.
Or maybe you have proof-of-concept … revenue is coming in (yay!) … yet you’re burning the candle at both ends and experiencing operational chaos.
Regardless of where you’re at in the process … you’re reading this because you want to generate more revenue without increasing your workload.
Step 1 – Developing a Business-Owner Mindset
As Russell Gray says, “what you think affects what you do and what you do affects the results you get.”
Continually thinking we’re the best person for every task will keep us trapped IN the business.
Asking ourselves daily … who can perform this task so that I can live in my sweet spot … will begin shifting our actions towards successful business-owner behaviors.
Step 2 – Knowing Your Sweet Spot
Identify your Sweet Spot by being brutally honest about your strengths, weaknesses, passions, and aspirations. Just because you can do something … doesn’t mean you should.
Once clear, design the business infrastructure that supports you thriving in your Sweet Spot. AND then … stay-in-your-lane!
Don’t be a helicopter business-owner … hovering over every person, task, and metric. This will erode the creativity, ownership, and confidence of everyone around you.
Put the right people in the right seats and empower them to succeed.
Step 3 – Running a Systems-Driven Business
Without a system the people will perish … ohhh wait that’s not how it goes! 😉
BUT … it’s true! Without processes and procedures to guide the actions of team members, you’ll have a revolving door without any stability.
Putting systems in place allows for consistent and repeatable operations on a daily basis so we don’t have to keep experiencing Groundhog Day.
Step 4 – Practice Delegating and Elevating
Effectively delegating and elevating is two-fold … managing capacity and up-leveling.
Managing capacity is about applying the 80/20 principle. Spending 80% of your time performing your daily responsibilities and 20% of your time training someone to take things off your plate.
Up-leveling is about continually clarifying your Sweet Spot and developing the characteristics and skills required to get to the next level.
Step 5 – Hiring A-Players
Top-ranked businesses and teams are a collection of high-performing individuals all rowing in the same direction.
Many business owners are jumping over dollars to save pennies when it comes to building teams.
Sadly, this is costly … missed opportunities, repetitive delays, redundant work, and lack of results stacks up and kills growth. Not-to-mention the toll it takes on our personal lives.
The solution is finding and keeping A-players by creating an environment of clarity, structure, accountability, and growth.
In conclusion …
… think like a business owner NOT a worker-bee … be disciplined to live in your Sweet Spot … develop duplicatable processes … and surround yourself with high-achievers so you can consistently scale your business without burnout.
And remember … “if your business depends on you, you don’t own a business—you have a job.” – Michael Gerber
