No Matter The Question… The Answer Is Discipline

If you’re like most entrepreneurs, we set out to build businesses to create freedom …

Freedom to be our own boss, set our own schedule, work from anywhere, reach uncapped financial heights, and achieve success on our terms.

YET, many of us end up trapped in the very businesses designed to create our freedom.

It’s tragic.

Working endlessly, striving tirelessly, and sacrificing all the things that once fueled and inspired us. 🙁

BUT, the good news is … it doesn’t have to be this way. We can build businesses we own that don’t own us.

We just need SYSTEMS.

I’ve been preaching the power of Psychological, Structural, and Social systems for some time now …

SO … we know this already! It’s not a new concept … Just read E-Myth, TractionScaling Up.

The question becomes …

How can we get ourselves and our teams to lean into SYSTEMS and STRUCTURES that work?!

The answer … DISCIPLINE.

Do what is easy and your life will be hard. Do what is hard and your life will be easy.” – Les Brown

One thing most maverick entrepreneurs struggle with is structure.

It’s hard to create structure and it’s hard to operate within structure. It feels confining and restricting to our untamed shiny-penny syndrome.

During a week with Simon Black in Lithuania years ago, his good friend Craig Ballantyne shared his formula for freedom … And freedom is ultimately what we’re striving for!

Structure = Freedom

The idea is simple … and we have all experienced this truth on some level.

When we have predetermined standards and actions based on principles and priorities, mental chatter, resistance, and straying from our purpose fade away.

We stop negotiating with ourselves. We simply get up every single day and take aligned actions.

This is the entire premise of Organize to Scale™ … “If it’s not on the calendar, it doesn’t exist.”

The entrepreneurial path is already harder … Let’s not make it even harder.

Make the entrepreneurial journey easier …

  • Show up prepared for the team meeting instead of canceling it.
  • Say no to chasing the next big idea and follow through on the current plan.
  • Manage our emotions so we don’t make abrupt decisions.
  • Eat the salad instead of the cookie so we have sustainable energy.

The list of do this and not that could go on and on. BUT, the question now is …

How do we get ourselves to do the harder thing now so life is easier later?! How to do we build the DISCIPLINE muscle?!

I offer two solutions …

  1. Create Structure WITH ACCOUNTABILITY
  2. Change WHO you hang around

In next week’s email … I’ll dive deeper into exactly how to do both.

In the meantime … If you want help implementing structures to build and scale your business without losing your sanity, drowning in operational chaos, or sacrificing your relationships … Let’s connect!
